Privilege Motion Against 12 Opposition MPs? Jagdeep Dhankhar Refers Complaint To Panel

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar has referred the names of 12 Opposition MPs to the Committee of Privileges of Rajya Sabha following allegations of breach of privilege for the duration of the Budget session. The Committee is predicted to examine, check out and put up a document to the Chairman, who will then take a name at the movement needed. The MPs from the Congress and the AAP were accused of “disorderly behavior” — again and again coming into the nicely of the House, shouting slogans, and obstructing complaints. According to a Rajya Sabha bulletin, 9 of the MPs are from the Congress and 3 from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The Congress MPs are Shaktisinh Gohil, Naranbhai J Rathwa, Syed Nasir Hussain, Kumar Ketkar, Imran Prattapgarhi, L Hanumanthaiah, Phulo Devi Netam, Jebi Mather Hisham, and Ranjeet Ranjan. The AAP participants are Sanjay Singh, Sushil Kumar Gupta, and Sandeep Kumar Pathak.

In the bulletin dated February 18, the Rajya Sabha Secretariat said, “…the Chairman…has referred a query of alleged breach of privilege springing up out of gross disorderly behavior displayed through (the MPs)….in violation of policies and etiquette of Rajya Sabha through again and again coming into the nicely of the council, shouting slogans and consistently and wilfully obstructing the complaints of the council, compelling the Chair to again and again adjourn the sittings of the Council.”

The Rajya Sabha noticed repeated disruptions because of protests through the competition MPs over diverse problems for the duration of the primary leg of the Budget Session which concluded in advance this month.

In any other notice, the Rajya Sabha Secretariat said, “…participants are knowledgeable that the Chairman, Rajya Sabha has referred a query of alleged breach of privilege springing up out of non-adherence to the instructions of the Chair vis-a-vis repeated submission of same notices below rule 267 through Shri Sanjay Singh, Member, Rajya Sabha, below rule 203 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business withinside the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) to the Committee of Privileges for examination, research and document.”
